View Full Version : X48 + DDR3. 2x1GB or 2x2GB for benching?
Is there any benefit to having a 4GB RAM setup on X48? Is it harder to do the same MHz and timings as a 2GB kit? :) Is the PPC the same?
Im sure this info is out there but theres so much tri-channel info out its hard to track down.
:)
Cheers!
I did some testing and:
YES, dualsided modules (2Gb modules in D9GTR case) are faster than 1Gb by approx 2-3 seconds,
BUT they also cause a lot of stress on mch (chop ~50mhz off your 2x1gb max freq), and with x48 being all about memfreq - you're better off with a 2x1Gb kit
Thanks Sam :D I knew you'd have info worth sharing
Shame about the MHz cap.... im sure theres a way to compensate for it *in some cases*
Would it give a few hundred points more in 3D01 and AM3 too? :)
you compensate by adding more voltz? :D
voltage won't compensate it above a certain point
...I'm still yet to find an X48 board that can MemTest with 4GB at 1000
The sweet-spot will change quite a bit, voltage might not be the answer. :)

glad I caught that - TY - I was about to go to 2x2 from 2x1 on the RE
Well there will be cases where its better. If say an FSB limit puits you at crap 2x1GB MHz, a 2x2GB kit might work out to be the better choice.
Im staying positive about this :D
