Hello folks,
im planning to go on the amd side to test the new phenom and some other small cpus. Therefore i need a good motherboard. But the question is, which chipset. 790GX or 790FX? The southbridge will be SB750.
But how does 790gx or fx behave under cold? Any particular differences?

TYIA!

they are both good options

the gx has its internal latencies a little looser so its mem performance is a little slower than a fx

this was done so a fx would be faster at the same clocks

tho ive seen this before with the intel 975bx vs the intel 965 chipsets

the 965 did higher clocks but when the actuall stock performance was measured it was considerably slower and to date the 975 is still the best performing northbridge for intel chipsets only its paired with a much outdated southbridge the ich7
tho good versions of the board paired it with an external sata controller to make sure it could perform on par with newer chips ich8-9

but the gx has an advantage because it has intergrated gfx so if u sell ur current u have something to fall back on till your new card comes
